Happy Thanksgiving, from the Adam House Family <3

At Adam House, we are grateful for the meaningful relationships we build with our residents, as these connections foster a nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.

Recently, we asked our staff to reflect on what they’re most thankful for when it comes to our incredible residents—and the responses warmed our hearts. Their stories are a testament to the resilience, generosity, and kindness that define our Adam House family.

Here’s a glimpse into some of those moments of gratitude:

  • The spirit of generosity: Our residents at AH North recently organized a yard sale to raise funds for a special group BBQ. After achieving their goal, they didn’t stop there. With leftover funds in hand, they chose to donate to our "Walk with Refugees" fundraiser, extending their generosity beyond themselves to support the larger community.

  • Acts of quiet kindness: A couple living at our Hanson Street house has gone out of their way to embrace their neighbour, the resident in the basement unit who faces many personal struggles. Through simple acts of care, they’ve made sure this resident feels loved and accepted—a beautiful example of creating family in unexpected places.

  • True friendship in hard times: One young man at Booth House has shown what it means to be a true friend. He has spent countless hours at the hospital by the side of another resident who suffers from cluster migraines, offering not only his time but his unwavering support during difficult moments.

  • The power of community support: At Gladstone, our residents have rallied around a young, single mother and her 4-month-old baby. What’s truly special is that even our youngest residents, ages 5 and 6, have taken on the role of helpers—playing with the baby and keeping her entertained while mom attends to other tasks. It’s a beautiful example of how all ages are pitching in, showing that care and love know no bounds.

  • A family away from home: More than anything, we are grateful for the way our residents have become a family in this new land. In a place far from home, they’ve learned to rejoice together in happy times and comfort each other in sorrow. We teach one another how to share love, to support one another, and to walk together as friends on this journey of faith.

  • The gift of hope and purpose: We are continually inspired by the energy, hope, and deep appreciation our residents bring to Canada. Along with their unique skills and talents, they share their personal journeys of faith, adding new layers of meaning and richness to our community. It’s a blessing to witness their resilience and growth as they navigate this chapter of their lives.

  • Open hearts and shared stories: We're deeply grateful for the patience our residents show, as well as their willingness to open up and share their life’s struggles and accomplishments with me. Their honesty and vulnerability create meaningful connections that remind me of the strength found in shared experiences. It’s a privilege to walk alongside them on their journey.

At Adam House, the gratitude we feel for our residents goes beyond words. Their acts of kindness, resilience, and openness strengthen our community. Our residents bring hope, love, and a sense of purpose that enrich our lives and inspire us every day.

We invite you to be part of this incredible journey. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word, your support helps build a stronger, more compassionate community. Join us in our mission to walk alongside these amazing individuals as they navigate their new lives in Canada. Together, we can continue to create a welcoming home for refugees.
